Bogie's Deli--Noshes and Nostalgia

Today I had lunch with my mom at Bogie's.  This downtown lunch-only spot is very popular with business folk, students and other locals.  I've visited many times over the years.  The food is always fresh.  They serve sandwiches, salads and burgers...all named after Humphrey Bogart movies.  The decor is also a homage to Bogie and there is often art on display by Abilene area artists as well.

I usually get The Big Sleep sandwich; oatmeal bread with jack cheese, sliced avocado, sprouts, tomatoes, and thousand island dressing and I get bacon added on.  Today I went with the Always Together which is a classic BLT.  My mom got The Oklahoma Kid which is a chicken breast with jack cheese and sliced avocado on sourdough with thousand island dressing.  They are served with a pickle spear and either chips or pretzels.  Baked Lays are available for an up-charge.  One drawback is that the chicken breast they use isn't seasoned much or grilled so it can be a little bland.

The place does a brisk lunch business.  To avoid the line go a bit before the noon hour or when it is closer to 1pm.  For my lunch today I spent almost $8 when I added a soda, more expensive than Subway or other chain sandwich places but the ingredients are high quality.  My food was gone by the time I thought to take a picture for the blog today.  Sorry!
